Coupled with a strong advisory board, LON's management team possesses considerable leadership and technical expertise in the fields of electronic publishing, eLearning, digital asset management, Internet technologies, network engineering, and transaction systems. Management Team John Purcell, President and Founder, Board Member John has held senior positions at the global publishing firms Addison Wesley Longman and Reed-Elsevier where he developed strategies for the deployment of digital asset management systems. He was formerly President of Innova, the contractor for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences e-commerce site. John managed Innova from startup to over $10 million in revenues in a year and a half. John was also chief corporate publishing technologist for print and web publishing for Addison Wesley Longman. He is also an acknowledged industry expert on digital asset management and is a frequent speaker at Seybold and other industry conferences. John served as Advisor to the CEO of Reed-Elsevier Professional Publishing, and also served with U.S. Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Clinton on Advisory Committees on Education and Internet Technologies. Brad Balow, Chief Financial Officer Brad is LON's CFO. He is the President of Balow & Company, LLC, a boutique investment banking firm specializing in capital raising and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to founding this firm, Brad spent fourteen years in M&A with Citibank and Salomon Smith Barney. Earlier in his career, Brad was a hardware and software cost engineer with IBM. Brad holds both Industrial Engineering and MBA degrees from the University of Michigan. Tom Barefoot, Vice President and Founder, Board Member Tom founded Universal Micro Systems, Inc. (UMS), a high-end systems integration and government technology fulfillment company in 1980 at the beginning of the microcomputer revolution. UMS has developed a wide range of software and LAN/WAN environments for government. Tom has a Masters degree in Administration and was past President of Effectiveness Training Consultants - a management training company. Tom studied comprehensive anticipatory design science with Buckminster Fuller. Tracy Flynn, Chief Systems Architect Tracy brings more than 20 years of information technology experience to LON. He was formerly Principal Systems Architect for BancTec's Advanced Enterprise Solutions Divisions. Tracy designed massive distributed check clearing systems for the Federal Reserve and Bank of America. These are some of the largest repository networks ever designed, processing more than 40 million objects a day (1-2 terabytes of data) and storing all content for seven years. Tracy developed cost-saving techniques to keep cost per transaction low in these high-volume networks. Tracy has also worked in senior software engineering roles at Phoenix Technology, Qualitas Software, Progress Software, Data General and other IT companies. Craig Runde, Chief Knowledge Officer and Founder Craig brings 15 years of experience in building West Publishing (now West Group) into one of the early powerhouses of online information and education. He directed development and marketing efforts on three major electronic product lines. He has more recently been involved in helping more than 500 colleges, universities and training organizations develop online and computer based education programs. Craig was also Director, Wake Forest University International Center for Computer Enhanced Learning, and is a professor at Eckerd College. Advisory Group Larry Jones, Chairman and Founder Larry brings more than 30 years experience in the publishing industry to LON. He was former Chairman, CEO, and president of Addison Wesley Longman which included Scott-Foresman and HarperCollins College Publishing; now part of Pearson Education. Larry has been an advocate of eLearning and was an early investor in Co-nect and WebCT. Peter Zotto, Chairman of LON Advisory Board Peter Zotto has extensive experience in leading and managing dynamic high-technology organizations. Peter was Chief Executive Officer and Director of WBT Systems, a pioneer in the eLearning market. As CEO, he moved WBT Systems from a little known higher education software company to a recognized leader in enterprise-wide on-line training software. Peter has lived in Europe and worked extensively in international markets. He has also held top executive positions at leading information technology companies including Compaq Computer Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation. Herman Pabbruwe, Board Member Herman is the President of Book-Ties, Inc. He was previously senior advisor to the Executive Board of Wolters Kluwer USA. Prior to that, Mr. Pabbruwe was CEO of Wolters Kluwer International Health & Science. His career at Wolters Kluwer goes back to 1986. He was also Chairman of the International Committee for Electronic Data Interchange for Serials (ICEDIS) 1992-1994. Scott Brim, Board Member Scott is a Systems Architect at Cisco Systems where he works as a technical visionary. He is a veteran of the original ARPANET, led early Internet design and development efforts, and continues to serve on many standards working groups. Scott was also the Director of Internetworking Strategy at Newbridge Networks, Senior Technical Advisor for Cornell University where he worked on Internet 2, and project manager for networking programs at Cornell Theory Center. |
